Floor Preparation

Why is floor preparation so important?

The quality of a finished floor can only be as good as the sub-floor on which it is installed. All floor finishes need a level, clean, dry subfloor free from contaminants to guarantee the lifespan of the installation.

We specialise in many types of mechanical floor preparation including uplifting existing floor coverings, shotblasting, floor grinding, floor planing and scarification of contaminated substrates.

We use the technical expertise of our partners who can offer professional guidance and advice to suit your site- specific requirements.

Once the subfloor is suitably prepared, we can determine the appropriate subfloor preparation system to be implemented (DPM, primer, levelling compound etc).

Our partners include:

FBall, Tremco Ilbruck, Ardex, Instarmac, Bostik and Mapei.

Altro Reliance vinyl safety floor

Vinyl flooring

Vinyl safety flooring has been marketed towards all healthcare, education and retail sectors, but what exactly is it?

Safety flooring is specifically manufactured to minimise risk and provide a safe, slip-resistant environment underfoot and guaranteed peace of mind.

Due to its hygienic material and nature, it is installed in environments where safety needs to be a top priority, such as hospitals, schools, care homes and areas exposed to high levels of standing water.

With its PUR coating, vinyl safety flooring is impervious which makes it easier to keep clean from spillages or contaminants in environments where hygiene is a must.

We supply and install a wide range of vinyl safety flooring including:

Altro, Polyflor, Gerflor, Tarkett, Forbo and IVC.

Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT)

Luxury Vinyl Tiles are one of the most versatile flooring options on the market. It is becoming an increasingly popular and affordable alternative to wood or stone.

LVTs are available in a wide range of specifications, colours and designs suited to any commercial or residential project. Durable enough to perform in high traffic environments, it’s also resistant to scratches, indentations and stains, yet flexible enough to be comfortable underfoot.

Sound and heat absorbent, the acoustic properties of many LVT ranges makes them the ideal choice for projects including student living spaces and the education sector.

The perfect flooring solution for commercial environments, LVTs work well in areas such as retail spaces, restaurants, gymnasium and offices.

LVT manufacturers we work with:

Amtico, Polyflor, Tarkett, IVC, Karndean, Interface and Gerflor.

Linoleum

Linoleum is one of the most natural and sustainable flooring solutions on the market.

Often used as an alternative to vinyl due to its robust environmental profile, Linoleum is available in a range of designs from plain colours to marbled effect sheet and tile.

Linoleum is a popular specification in schools and other high traffic commercial environments. It is well-suited to these areas due to its naturally anti-static and hypo-allergenic properties.

Made from materials such as solidified linseed oil, pine roisin, ground cork dust, wood flour, and mineral fillers such as calcium carbonate, most commonly on a burlap or canvas backing.

Certain types of Linoleum are biodegradable, very recyclable and widely regarded as a carbon neutral product.

We are trained installers of the following Linoleum manufacturers:

Forbo, Tarkett and DLW.

Carpets

As a floor covering, carpet offers many benefits within commercial interiors including sound absorption, underfoot comfort, thermal insulation and improved slip resistance.

Carpet can add a sense of sophistication to a commercial environment, be it communal area, reception or living space.

We supply and install a large range of cut pile, loop pile and textured carpet for commercial or residential use suitable for student accommodation, office spaces and retail areas. Whether it’s 100% Wool, Nylon or Polypropylene, we can fit it. The fibre selection is an  important factor in determining aesthetics, long-term performance and ease of maintenance as well as the choice of underlay.

The range of colours, textures and patterns also provide plenty of scope within the design arena. The specification of a contract carpet that is fit-for-purpose involves a consideration of both aesthetics and performance, especially in the Healthcare sector where bleach resistant fibres and impervious backing are a must.

Manufacturers we work with are:

Desso, Westex, JHS, Heckmondwike, Burmatex, Forbo, Gradus.

Carpet Tiles

Over the last decade, the ranges of carpet tiles have grown rapidly and are manufactured in an array of styles, colour schemes and sizes.

Carpet tiles can be laid in most environments, eliminating large wastage factors as they are supplied by the box and are becoming more sustainable with the use of recycled materials in the manufacturing process. They also improve the acoustic performance, air quality and comfort underfoot, which makes them the perfect choice for schools, offices, communal and residential living areas.

They are generally fitted using a tackifier type adhesive although loose-lay options are also available, both methods allow individual tiles to be removed for subfloor access or replacement.

Installations can be carried out in small areas or on a temporary basis (exhibitions etc). Types of carpet tiles available include woven, tufted, fibre bonded, fusion bonded, flocked and loop pile. Backing options vary and comprise of bitumen, PVC, synthetic crumb, fibre and recycled.

Leading manufacturers of carpet tiles we install include:

Interface, Milliken, Desso, Heckmondwike, Burmatex, JHS, CFS, Gradus, Modulyss, Shaw, Forbo.

Hygienic Wall Cladding

Hygienic wall cladding is a cost-effective alternative to traditional wall tiles. It is particularly well suited in areas where cleanliness is paramount for example, food preparation areas, bathroom and toilet facilities, medical treatment rooms and corridors.

Unlike tiling, there is no grouting required which increases its hygienic qualities and helps to keep it looking as good as the day it was installed.

Wall cladding is easy to clean, anti-bacterial, extremely durable and cost effective with a wide range of colours, designs and finishes that make it an ideal choice for commercial settings such as kitchens, hospitals, schools and care homes.

Most wall cladding panels are flame retardant, impact and chemical resistant.

As a preferred installer, we are fully trained and equipped to offer a quality installation.

Manufacturers we work with are:

Altro, Trovex, Bioclad

Benefits include reduced injuries from bumps and falls and an added feeling of protection so that everyone can enjoy their sporting and exercising experience.
